High-performance C/L-band polarisation maintaining multiplexer for coherent DWDM optical testing

Polarisation-Maintaining DWDM Multiplexer

The PMUX is built around a high-performance polarisation-maintaining arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) for precise DWDM channel multiplexing on the ITU grid. This design ensures minimal insertion loss, even in high channel-count optical systems, while strictly preserving the polarisation state of each laser line. As a result, the PMUX delivers stable and repeatable performance for demanding coherent optical communication and DWDM test applications.

Stable Polarisation for Advanced Optical Modulation

By maintaining a stable output polarisation across all channels, the PMUX enables reliable downstream modulation using Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM) structures. This polarisation stability is critical for dual-polarisation and IQ modulation schemes, ensuring consistent modulation efficiency and signal integrity. The PMUX, therefore, serves as an ideal front-end component for coherent transmitter setups and optical signal generation.

Emulation of DWDM Spectra for System Testing

The combination of polarisation-maintaining multiplexing and precise channel alignment allows users to arbitrarily modulate a channel comb to accurately emulate real-world DWDM spectra. This makes the PMUX a powerful tool for DWDM system emulation, transceiver validation, and multi-channel optical testing in both R&D laboratories and production environments.

The PMux is a next-generation optical signal combiner specifically designed for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) test environments. It integrates polarisation-maintaining (PM) PANDA-type fibers and advanced Mach-Zehnder interferometric structures to ensure stable, interference-free transmission across all channels.

This state-of-the-art system is perfect for users who require low insertion loss, high extinction ratios, and consistent polarisation across a large number of DWDM channels. The PMux is ideal for:

  • Creating high-density DWDM channel combs
  • Emulating real-world network environments
  • Testing optical amplifiers, transponders, and components
  • Developing and verifying new network architectures
